Wages, per-job invoices, project dates, any accreditation you hold and duties that may change can all affect your plans. We can help you bring them together in one plan, on wages or your own ABN.

What we advise on
What could keep money coming in if illness or injury kept you away from wind, solar or battery work?
After a waiting period, income protection can pay part of your income, subject to policy terms, exclusions and the insurer’s assessment.
We’ll compare life, TPD and income protection with you, from the insurers willing to consider your work.
Income protection usually pays a share of your pre-tax income, based on your earnings in the 12 months before, and Moneysmart says most policies offer a waiting period between 14 days and two years. When you apply, insurers usually ask about your age and job, so the duties you do are part of the picture. The insurer decides on each application and claim.
Together, we’ll work through:
How far could a good stretch of project or per-job work take you?
Starting with income you can rely on can make it easier to plan the rest, from savings to your own goals.
We can build one budget with you from wages, allowances and invoices, based on what you can rely on.
Pay in this work can come as wages, allowances, overtime or per-job invoices, and each can change at a different time. So we start with what you can rely on, then plan anything above it. If you have employees, from 1 July 2026 their super must generally reach their fund within 7 business days after payday.
Together, we’ll work through:
Could a share of your income today give you more choice later on?
Knowing who pays your super, and what’s yours to add, can help you plan contributions that suit your budget.
Together, we’ll map who pays your super on wages, per job and in your own business.
On a contract, a business may still have to pay super if you’re paid mainly for your labour. The ATO looks at whether more than half the contract’s value is for your labour, whether payment depends on a set result and whether you can delegate the work, and an ABN doesn’t settle it. A contract with your own company, trust or partnership is different, as the hirer doesn’t have to pay. An accountant or the ATO can confirm.
Together, we’ll work through:
When income arrives as invoices or a big project, which decisions are worth planning with tax in mind?
Setting tax money aside as invoices go out, and timing bigger purchases with an accountant, can mean fewer surprises.
We can set out the tax side of your work with you, alongside an accountant.
Ryker’s financial advisers plan tax and set tax structure and strategy, working alongside your accountant, who prepares and lodges your return. Part of each invoice may end up owed as tax, so an accountant can estimate the amount to set aside. What you can claim for accreditation, tools, test gear and travel is also a question for an accountant.
Together, we’ll work through:
From a new accreditation to your own van or a role in design, what’s the next step you’d like to plan?
Planning a step ahead can show what it costs, what it pays and what it changes for you.
Together, we’ll cost your next move and set it out in a financial plan, or Statement of Advice.
Your next pay can depend on a build, a service agreement, a retailer’s jobs or an employer, and each one ends or renews differently. Moving between them can change your pay, super and cover. Questions on an accreditation go to the body that issues it and licence questions to the licensing regulator, and we plan the money side with you.
Together, we’ll work through:
When you picture your later working years and retirement, what would you like them to look like?
An early plan can give you more say over when you finish and how you spend those years.
We’ll build your retirement plan with you on super and savings first, with any business value as an addition.
Super and savings can form the base of your retirement income, because what a small business or its gear could sell for isn’t certain. Preservation age is 60 for anyone born from 1 July 1964, and super can generally only be accessed once you meet a condition of release, such as ceasing employment at 60 or over.
Together, we’ll work through:
Is a home or investment property part of your plans, on income that can pause between projects?
Testing repayments against a gap between projects can show what a purchase might ask of your budget.
We’ll test a purchase with you against a gap in your work, and a broker arranges any loan.
A lender decides how it reads per-job and ABN income, and a broker compares lenders and arranges any loan. Borrowing to invest can magnify losses as well as gains, and the loan must still be repaid if values fall. From 1 July 2027, negative gearing on residential property is limited to new builds, though property held on 12 May 2026 is exempt.
Together, we’ll work through:

Read moreInstalling and looking after wind, solar and battery systems takes skill, care and pride in doing the job properly. Homes and towns stay powered by that work long after you’ve packed up and moved on. We’d like to start by understanding you: how your work runs, who matters most to you and what you’re hoping for. Then we’ll help you shape a plan around the way you’re paid and the life you want.
Good pay can do more than cover this month’s bills. It can go towards a home, a van or a crew of your own, time away with people you love, or more choice later in life. Anyone who relies on your income can have a place in the plan too. If you’d like ongoing advice, we can review the plan with you each year, so it keeps up with your goals.
Every financial decision impacts the next
Great advice starts with understanding the bigger picture. Every stage of life presents new opportunities and challenges, from buying property and changing careers to growing your family, planning for retirement and protecting what matters most. At Ryker, we help connect every piece of your financial world into one clear strategy.
Your
Wealth

We’re invested in your long-term success. What we do is personal, and we take it personally.
Your financial decisions connect, so we consider the parts of your financial life that are relevant to the advice you need:
This is how we help you make decisions today with your longer-term goals in view.
Everybody’s situation is different, so we listen first, understand what matters to you and explain your options clearly before we make a recommendation.
They may, and having an ABN doesn’t settle it. The ATO treats a contractor as an employee for super if more than half the contract’s value is for their labour, they’re not paid to achieve a set result and they can’t delegate the work. If the contract is with your own company, trust or partnership, the hirer doesn’t have to pay.
Panels, batteries or other materials in your price can change the sum, as payments for materials aren’t labour. An accountant or the ATO can confirm where you stand. Whatever the answer, we can plan your super with you around what’s paid in and what you’d like to add.
Your accountant and financial adviser bring different expertise to the same decisions. Your accountant can advise on tax reporting, structures and consequences; we help you plan how cashflow, debt, super, investments and protection work towards your goals. We can coordinate before important decisions.
What an accountant does
What a financial adviser does
Professional roles and authorisations matter. We provide financial advice within our authorisations and work with your accountant for specialist tax advice and lodgements.
Where they work together
It can depend on your employer’s business and the work you do, rather than your job title. One award covers the generation of electrical power by whatever means, along with its transmission, distribution and retail supply, though contractors covered by some other awards, and generation that’s only incidental to another industry, sit outside it.
Where your wind, solar or battery job falls is a question for Fair Work, where the national award system applies. We can build your budget and super plan with you from the pay you receive.
It helps to look at this before your last day. Points to plan:
Income protection is generally for illness or injury rather than losing a job, so savings and your budget do more of the work here. We can go over the numbers with you while your pay is still coming in.
That can depend on how you’re paid and what you hold. Places to look:
We can plan with you how these could fit together. The insurer decides any claim on a policy, and each scheme’s rules set who decides a workers compensation claim.
Start with the repayments, tested against work you can rely on rather than your busiest month. A broker can compare lenders and arrange any finance. Then add fuel, servicing, tools, test gear and any business insurance from a general insurance broker.
If your work needs accreditation, check with the body that issues it, and ask the licensing regulator about any licence. It’s also worth reading any cover you hold before you leave wages, as Moneysmart suggests for insurance through super. We can work through the budget and cover with you before you sign, and the insurer decides on any application.
Cover for the business itself, including tools and the van, sits with a general insurance broker, who can explain those policies for you.
A financial adviser starts with you as a person: what you’d want in place if you couldn’t work, who relies on your income, and how super and savings fit with what the business pays you. We’d look at cover from the insurers willing to consider your work, and the insurer decides on any application.
First, check what the new role needs. Design work on some systems can call for its own accreditation, and the body that issues it is the place to confirm. Points to plan:
We can work through the costs with you before you commit.
Yes. A plan here could cover how long you’d like to stay on towers or roofs, if that’s your work now, and a later move into design, planning or training. On an ABN and paid per job, your contributions may be yours to plan, unless a business has to pay your super.
The plan starts with super and savings, and a business sale, if you have a business, is treated as an addition because a sale isn’t certain. You can read more about our retirement advice.
