Drawings, super, personal cover, any lease you sign and your eventual way out of the business all connect. We’ll help you work through them together, from your first year to stepping back.

What we advise on
Could a plan for your drawings make more room for life outside the business?
Building the budget on what the business can reliably pay you can show where stronger weeks could go.
Together, we’ll build your household budget from what you can reliably draw or be paid.
Drawings or pay can move with takings, while rent, wages, suppliers and loan payments can stay much the same. We start with the amount you can rely on and plan where anything above it could go. If you employ staff, from 1 July 2026 their super must generally reach their fund within 7 business days after payday.
Together, we’ll work through:
Time away from the business through illness or injury: what could help keep money coming in at home?
Income protection can pay part of what you earn, subject to the policy’s terms and exclusions and the insurer’s assessment.
We’ll compare cover with you around the work you do as an owner, whether that’s service, the books or both.
After a waiting period, income protection usually pays a share of your pre-tax income, based on your earnings in the 12 months before an illness or injury. For an owner, some policies count income after your share of business expenses, so each insurer’s approach is worth asking about. Life, TPD and trauma cover each have their own terms. The insurer decides on applications and claims.

How might your super build over the years you spend running the business?
Contributions planned around your structure and your income can add up beside what you’re building at work.
Together, we’ll map who pays what into your super under your business structure.
If you’re self-employed as a sole trader or in a partnership, you don’t have to pay super guarantee for yourself. A company can have to pay it for a director, and a family member working in the business can also be someone you pay it for. An accountant or the ATO can confirm where you stand.
Together, we’ll work through:
What could you plan ahead for when the business has a strong stretch?
Setting money aside and timing big decisions with an accountant can leave fewer surprises when a tax bill arrives.
We’ll plan how tax fits your drawings, your structure and your goals, alongside an accountant.
Ryker’s financial advisers plan tax and set tax structure and strategy, working alongside your accountant, who prepares and lodges your return. Part of each strong week’s income may end up owed as tax, so an accountant can estimate the amount to set aside. What the business can claim is also a question for an accountant.
Together, we’ll work through:
From a first venue to handing over the keys, what’s the next step you’d like to plan?
A plan made early can set out the cost, the income and what changes for your household.
Together, we’ll set out your next step in a financial plan, or Statement of Advice.
A hospitality business can change shape over the years, from a first lease to a second location, a manager on the floor or a family handover. Each step can affect your income, your debts and your time. We plan the money side with you, and a lawyer, accountant or broker can each look after their own part.
Together, we’ll work through:
Stepping back from service one day: what would you like life to look like?
An early plan can give you more say in when you step back and what funds those years.
Together, we’ll plan retirement on super and savings first, with any sale of the business as an addition.
What a buyer might pay isn’t something a plan can count on, so we start with super and savings. Preservation age is 60 for anyone born from 1 July 1964, and super can generally only be accessed once you meet a condition of release, such as ceasing employment at 60 or over. The four small business CGT concessions stay in place after 1 July 2027, and an accountant can confirm whether you qualify.
Together, we’ll work through:
Where might a home or investment property fit alongside the business?
Testing a purchase against your slowest stretch can show what it might ask of your budget.
We’ll test a purchase with you against your slowest stretch, and a broker arranges any loan.
A lender decides how it reads owner income, and a broker compares lenders and arranges any loan. Borrowing to invest can magnify losses as well as gains, and the loan must still be repaid if values fall. From 1 July 2027, negative gearing on residential property is limited to new builds, though property held on 12 May 2026 is exempt.
Together, we’ll work through:

We start by getting to know you, what the business means to you and what you’re working towards. From there, we’ll help you shape a plan that suits how you’re paid, with room for the life you’d like outside the business.
What you’ve built at work can do more for you at home. Good stretches can go towards a home, time with the people you love, another venue or the freedom to hand over the keys one day. Your own savings and super can be part of the plan too, so there’s something beside the business that’s yours. We can review the plan with you each year, so it stays with the goals you’ve set.
Every financial decision impacts the next
Great advice starts with understanding the bigger picture. Every stage of life presents new opportunities and challenges, from buying property and changing careers to growing your family, planning for retirement and protecting what matters most. At Ryker, we help connect every piece of your financial world into one clear strategy.
Your
Wealth

We’re invested in your long-term success. What we do is personal, and we take it personally.
Your financial decisions connect, so we consider the parts of your financial life that are relevant to the advice you need:
This is how we help you make decisions today with your longer-term goals in view.
Everybody’s situation is different, so we listen first, understand what matters to you and explain your options clearly before we make a recommendation.
We start from the amount you can rely on, using your own figures, over a full year where you have one. That becomes the base for household bills, with a buffer above it for thinner weeks. Stronger weeks can then each be given a job:
How much goes where is your decision, and we can work through it with you.
Your accountant and financial adviser bring different expertise to the same decisions. Your accountant can advise on tax reporting, structures and consequences; we help you plan how cashflow, debt, super, investments and protection work towards your goals. We can coordinate before important decisions.
What an accountant does
What a financial adviser does
Professional roles and authorisations matter. We provide financial advice within our authorisations and work with your accountant for specialist tax advice and lodgements.
Where they work together
It depends on your structure. If you’re self-employed as a sole trader or in a partnership, you don’t have to pay compulsory super for yourself, so contributions are yours to plan. A company can have to pay super for a director, and if you pay yourself wages through payroll, your business must pay super on them.
An accountant or the ATO can confirm where you stand. We can then plan with you what goes in, how often and how it fits your budget.
A lawyer can read your personal guarantee and explain what it could mean for you, and can also read any new one before you sign.
From there, we can count what’s at stake in your plan: your savings, your home if it’s been used as security, and the life and TPD amounts you might weigh up. It can also shape your goals, such as how much you’d like to hold outside the business. We can work through that with you once you know what the document says.
Start with what a sale may leave behind. Selling a business may not end your obligations under a lease or a personal guarantee, and the rules can differ between states and types of lease, so a lawyer can read yours well before you sell.
Other points to plan:
We can plan the money side with you, so your next stage doesn’t rest on one price.
If one business pays you both, a slow stretch or an illness can reach your whole household at once, so it helps to look at these together:
We can go through it with you both, and plan around what each of you would like.
Public liability, property and business interruption cover look after the business, and a general insurance broker is the person to explain them.
Our work is personal: what would happen at home if you couldn’t work. That means income protection, life and TPD cover, along with super, savings and the way the business pays you. We can compare suitable options with you from a wide range of insurers, and the insurer decides on any application.
Start at home: what the household needs each month, and the savings you’d have left after the purchase. Whether to buy is your decision, and we can help you see what it could ask of your budget.
Cover is worth looking at before you sign too, as your debts and who relies on you may change. The insurer decides on any application.
Yes. We can look with you at when you’d like to step back from service, whether a manager could run things for a while, and how any lease end date sits beside your retirement date. If you’re self-employed, what goes into your super may come from your drawings, so contributions are yours to plan.
We’d build the plan on super and savings rather than assuming the business will sell. You can read more about our retirement advice.
We’re a national service, so you can meet with us by phone or video from anywhere in Australia. We also have offices in three cities:
