Wages or subbie pay, labour only or supply and fix, a van, any licence your state or territory requires and changing duties all connect. We’ll help you plan across them, from your first job to a shop of your own.

What we advise on
How would money keep coming in at home if illness or injury meant time away from glazing?
After a waiting period, income protection can pay part of your income, subject to the policy’s terms, exclusions and the insurer’s assessment.
Together, we’ll compare cover with you around house, shopfront, curtain wall or shop duties, from the insurers willing to consider your work.
Income protection usually pays a share of your pre-tax income, based on your earnings in the 12 months before an illness or injury, and Moneysmart says most policies have a waiting period between 14 days and two years. Insurers usually ask about your age and job when you apply, so what you do with glass day to day is part of the picture. The insurer decides on any application and claim.
Together, we’ll work through:

Whether you’re on wages or sending invoices, what would make your budget easier to plan?
Starting from the income you can rely on can show what stronger months could go towards.
We’ll map your glazing income with you into one budget, built on what you can rely on.
Glazing pay can come as wages, a labour-only rate or a supply and fix price. On a supply and fix job, glass may need paying for well before the invoice is paid, so money in the account isn’t always yours to spend. We start with the income you can rely on and plan anything above it. If you employ a crew, from 1 July 2026 their super must generally reach their fund within 7 business days after payday.
Together, we’ll work through:
How might your super build across wages, subbie work and a business of your own?
Knowing who pays what can show what’s yours to add, and contributions can build over a working life.
Together, we’ll map who may pay your super on wages, on a contract and in your own business.
On a contract, a business may still have to pay super if you’re paid mainly for your labour. The ATO looks at whether more than half the contract’s value is labour, whether you’re paid for skills rather than a set result, and whether you can delegate. An ABN doesn’t settle it, and a contract with your own company, trust or partnership means the hirer doesn’t pay. An accountant or the ATO can confirm.
Together, we’ll work through:
Would planning ahead for tax leave fewer surprises in a good year of glazing work?
Setting money aside on an accountant’s estimate can make a tax bill easier to meet.
We’ll plan the tax side of your glazing income with you, alongside an accountant.
Ryker’s financial advisers plan tax and set tax structure and strategy, working alongside your accountant, who prepares and lodges your return. Part of each invoice may end up owed as tax, so an accountant can estimate the amount to set aside. The timing of glass purchases and what you can claim are also questions for an accountant.
Together, we’ll work through:
Which step in glazing would you like to plan next, from a first van to estimating?
Planning it early can show the cost, the income and what changes at home.
Together, we’ll cost your next step in glazing and set it out in a financial plan, or Statement of Advice.
Glazing can change over a working life, from apprentice to qualified, from wages to subbie work, from house jobs to commercial, or from site work to estimating. Where a licence is required for the work you’d take on, the rules belong to the regulator in your state or territory, and we plan the costs and timing with you.
Together, we’ll work through:
Looking past your working years in glass, what would you like more time for?
Early decisions can give you more choice over when you finish and what those years look like.
We’ll build your retirement plan with you on super and savings first, with any business sale kept as an addition.
Super and savings can form the base of your retirement income, because what a van, stock or customer base could fetch isn’t certain. Preservation age is 60 for anyone born from 1 July 1964, and super can generally only be accessed once you meet a condition of release, such as ceasing employment at 60 or over. The four small business CGT concessions stay in place after 1 July 2027, and an accountant can confirm whether you qualify.
Together, we’ll work through:
Would a home or investment property fit around how you’re paid?
Looking at repayments in your slower months first can show what a purchase might mean for your budget.
We’ll weigh a purchase with you against your quieter months of work, and a broker arranges any loan.
A lender decides how it reads your income, and a broker compares lenders and arranges any loan. Borrowing to invest can magnify losses as well as gains, and the loan must still be repaid if values fall. From 1 July 2027, negative gearing on residential property is limited to new builds, though property held on 12 May 2026 is exempt. For gains accruing after 1 July 2027, indexation and a 30% minimum tax generally replace the 50% CGT discount.
Together, we’ll work through:

Read moreGlazing is exacting work, often measured to the millimetre. People live, work and shop behind the glass you measure, cut or fit, and the care that goes into it often goes unseen. We’d like to start there, by getting to know you, how you work and what matters to you and the people around you. From there, we’ll help you shape a plan around the way you’re paid and the life you’d like.
Steady work can do more than cover this month’s bills. It can go towards a home, time with the people you love, a van or a shop of your own, or more freedom later on. Your savings and super can be part of the plan too, so you’re setting something aside beside your work. We can review the plan with you each year, so it stays in step with the goals you’ve set.
Every financial decision impacts the next
Great advice starts with understanding the bigger picture. Every stage of life presents new opportunities and challenges, from buying property and changing careers to growing your family, planning for retirement and protecting what matters most. At Ryker, we help connect every piece of your financial world into one clear strategy.
Your
Wealth

We’re invested in your long-term success. What we do is personal, and we take it personally.
Your financial decisions connect, so we consider the parts of your financial life that are relevant to the advice you need:
This is how we help you make decisions today with your longer-term goals in view.
Everybody’s situation is different, so we listen first, understand what matters to you and explain your options clearly before we make a recommendation.
It depends on the contract. The ATO treats a contractor as an employee for super if more than half the contract’s value is for their labour, they’re paid for their labour and skills rather than a set result, and they can’t delegate the work. Having an ABN doesn’t settle it, and under a contract with your own company, trust or partnership, the business hiring you doesn’t have to pay.
On supply and fix, glass and other materials in the price aren’t labour, and the ATO says the value of each should be detailed separately. An accountant or the ATO can confirm where you stand, and we can plan your super with you from there.
Your accountant and financial adviser bring different expertise to the same decisions. Your accountant can advise on tax reporting, structures and consequences; we help you plan how cashflow, debt, super, investments and protection work towards your goals. We can coordinate before important decisions.
What an accountant does
What a financial adviser does
Professional roles and authorisations matter. We provide financial advice within our authorisations and work with your accountant for specialist tax advice and lodgements.
Where they work together
Your employer and the work you do decide which award covers glazing work, rather than your job title. More than one award names glaziers: one takes in glass and glazing contracting and another building and construction work, so two glaziers can be on different pay. An enterprise agreement may apply instead.
Where the national award system applies, Fair Work is the place to check yours. We can plan with you from the pay you get, so your budget and super start from your own figures.
Start with the income you can rely on, then add what going out on your own changes:
We can work through the budget and cover with you before you sign, and the insurer decides on any application.
Any licence your state or territory requires is a question for its regulator, which owns the rules. A licence can carry financial requirements, and an accountant can prepare any report the regulator asks for.
We can plan the money side with you: application fees, any training, the time involved and how a financial requirement sits beside your budget.
That depends on how you’re paid and the cover you hold. It can include:
We can plan with you how these could fit together, and the scheme or insurer decides any claim.
That cover is about the business and what it might owe others, and a general insurance broker can explain it, along with tools, a van and glass in transit.
We look at you and your household instead: money coming in if illness or injury stops you working, lump sums for debts, and how super fits. We can compare income protection, life and TPD with you from the insurers willing to consider your work, and each insurer makes its own decision on an application.
Start with the pay. A move can change your wage or income, any allowances and the hours you work, so it helps to plan from what you’d earn in the new role. Points to look at:
We can go through this with you and cost the move before you commit.
Yes. Your plan can take in the year you’d like to finish, whether that’s on site or in a shop, and a stage of estimating or supervising first. On an ABN, what goes into your super may be yours to plan, unless a business has to pay it.
We’d start from super and savings, then count what a van or a glass business could fetch as an extra, since a sale isn’t certain. You can read more about our retirement advice.
