A change in what homes cost, an upgrade or plans to retire can affect your super, cashflow, tax and any cover. We’ll help you build or review a plan, at our Eagle Street office or by phone or video.

What we advise on
Where would your next step in housing leave your budget?
A test budget can show what a move, an upgrade or a first home could mean for your goals.
We’ll set out today’s budget, then build a second version if a next home is on your mind.
A test budget lets you see a bigger loan or a different rent before anything is signed. We don’t forecast interest rates or prices, so if you have a loan, we can try higher and lower figures with you. Any buffer comes from your essential costs and income security, as no single amount suits every household.
Together, we’ll work through:
How much of your wealth sits in one place?
Seeing your super and any home or investments side by side can show what each could do for your goals.
We’ll build a financial plan, or Statement of Advice, around your super, investing and any home or cover you have.
Every financial decision influences the next, and a home can hold a lot of wealth without paying a single bill while you live in it. We get to know your goals, your income and what matters most to you before we recommend anything, then set out your plan in writing and walk you through it.
Together, we’ll work through:
If most of your wealth is in a home, what can super add?
Reviewing contributions, fees and any cover can show how super could support you, whether or not you own a home.
We can compare your fund’s costs and investments with what you’d like super to do, whatever your age.
From 1 July 2026 the general concessional cap is $32,500, and caps are indexed. When you start a new job, your employer generally pays into your existing super fund unless you choose another; a default fund applies only if you have no fund. We look at how contributions could add to wealth held outside property.
Together, we’ll work through:
What might selling a home or investment mean for your tax?
Planning before a sale can show how it fits with your other goals, with time to weigh your choices.
We can set tax structure and strategy with you around a sale or investment, alongside an accountant, who lodges your return.
For gains accruing after 1 July 2027, the 50% CGT discount is replaced by indexation and a 30% minimum tax. From 1 July 2027, negative gearing on residential property is limited to new builds, though property held on 12 May 2026 is exempt. A sale of your own home can be treated differently, so an accountant confirms your position.
Together, we’ll work through:
Keep, sell or use a home differently: what would suit your plan?
Looking at the whole plan first can help you decide what suits the years ahead.
We’ll look at how keeping, selling or buying property would fit your plan, with a mortgage broker for the lending.
A rise in value doesn’t pay a bill unless a home is sold or borrowed against. Borrowing to invest can magnify losses as well as gains, and the loan must still be repaid if values fall. We don’t forecast prices or suggest suburbs; we look at how much of your wealth would sit in one asset.
Together, we’ll work through:
Does your retirement plan rely on selling a home?
Testing that early can show what a sale could fund and what super and savings could provide.
We can test retirement plans that involve a home, including staying put, downsizing or selling and renting.
Preservation age is 60 for anyone born from 1 July 1964, and super can generally only be accessed once you meet a condition of release, such as ceasing employment at 60 or over. Downsizing may not suit your plans, and Age Pension asset limits differ for homeowners and non-homeowners, so we look at your housing first.
Together, we’ll work through:
Would a home’s value pay the bills if illness or injury stopped your income?
What’s owed and who relies on you can guide any cover, as a home’s value helps only if sold or borrowed against.
We’ll work from any debts and who relies on your income, then compare and apply if cover suits; the insurer decides.
The median house sale price in the Brisbane local government area was $1,445,000 in the June 2026 quarter, up from $1,300,000 a year earlier. Your own figures may be different, so we work from those, and an upgrade can change a loan while a price change alone doesn’t. Moneysmart suggests doing a budget to work out how much income protection you need.
Together, we’ll work through:
Could a health condition change the cover an insurer offers you?
Our guides explain what insurers may ask about common conditions, and a health condition doesn’t necessarily rule out cover.
We can help you prepare an application with a health condition or past illness, and the insurer decides whether to offer cover.
Is a self-managed fund on your list?
Talking through what’s involved can help you settle on super that suits your retirement plans.
We can talk through whether a self-managed fund suits your balance, your time and your retirement plans.
A self-managed fund gives trustees more say over investments, along with running costs, administration and legal duties. Moving from an APRA-regulated fund also means giving up prudential regulation and the option to complain about the fund to AFCA. We look at the options within an existing fund too.
Together, we’ll work through:

A home can mean many things at once: somewhere to raise a family, a place you’ve worked hard for, or the next goal on your list. When its cost or value changes, it’s natural to wonder what that means for everything else you’ve planned. We take the time to listen to what you want out of life, explain your options clearly and help you build a financial plan that looks after more than housing.
If you rent, or have no plans to move at all, there’s just as much to look forward to and plan for. The people you care about, the work you do and the time you’d like to spend together all belong in the conversation. We can help you plan for a life you enjoy now, and work towards the years ahead you’d like to have, whatever home you’re living in.
Every financial decision impacts the next
Great advice starts with understanding the bigger picture. Every stage of life presents new opportunities and challenges, from buying property and changing careers to growing your family, planning for retirement and protecting what matters most. At Ryker, we help connect every piece of your financial world into one clear strategy.
Your
Wealth

We’re invested in your long-term success. What we do is personal, and we take it personally.
Your financial decisions connect, so we consider the parts of your financial life that are relevant to the advice you need:
This is how we help you make decisions today with your longer-term goals in view.
Everybody’s situation is different, so we listen first, understand what matters to you and explain your options clearly before we make a recommendation.
It can be a good prompt to look again, though a higher value doesn’t change what you owe or what your income pays for. We’d check whether any cover and buffer still match your income and what you owe, how much of your wealth now sits in the home, and whether plans to upgrade or downsize still add up.
We don’t forecast prices. We work from your own figures, with an accountant on any tax.
Equity only becomes money if a home is sold or borrowed against, and a lender would decide whether you can borrow when income has stopped. That can make it hard to count on for everyday bills, and lending questions go to a mortgage broker.
If illness or injury stops you working, income protection may help, subject to the policy’s definition, waiting period and other requirements. Cash buffers can help in other situations, such as a redundancy or a choice to stop work. We can compare and apply for cover with you if it suits, and the insurer decides.
Your accountant and financial adviser bring different expertise to the same decisions. Your accountant can advise on tax reporting, structures and consequences; we help you plan how cashflow, debt, super, investments and protection work towards your goals. We can coordinate before important decisions.
What an accountant does
What a financial adviser does
Professional roles and authorisations matter. We provide financial advice within our authorisations and work with your accountant for specialist tax advice and lodgements.
Where they work together
Start with a test budget at the higher loan amount, including moving costs and duty, and take the lending to a mortgage broker. Then look at what a bigger loan would change:
We can work through these with you before you commit.
We don’t have an office in North Lakes, so you can meet us at our Eagle Street office in Brisbane, or by phone or video, whichever suits you.
Either way, tell us what’s on your mind and we’ll explain how we can help and what we’ll need to get started.
Comparison sites can show quotes quickly, based on the questions they ask, which can give you a feel for prices.
They may not show how an upgrade changes the amount you’d want, or how one policy’s wording differs from another’s. We can work that through and lodge the application with you, and the insurer decides. Any advice after our initial conversation is a paid service, with its scope and fee agreed with you in writing first.
It can, and that’s where our local knowledge helps. We know Brisbane’s local government areas, including Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, Moreton Bay and Redland, how property values have moved, its multicultural communities and the opportunities a thriving economy can bring. You can meet us at our Eagle Street office, or by phone or video from anywhere in the city.
Super and Age Pension rules are national, so they stay the same across those councils. Your advice starts with your own situation and plans.
Start with what the old home is doing for your plan, and whether keeping it suits your goals. The ATO says a former home can be treated as your main residence for capital gains tax for up to 6 years if you used it to produce income, such as rent. Conditions apply, so an accountant can confirm your position.
Land tax is set by the state where the land sits, so that state’s revenue office can confirm any amount. We can also look at your budget and any cover with both homes in view.
Start with a budget that shows your rent and what you can set aside, then a deposit goal that suits it. A mortgage broker can tell you what you may be able to borrow.
We can also look at how saving fits with your super and any cover, and whether buying is what you want right now. Renting for longer can be part of a good plan too.
Start with what you’d like from the next home and what a sale could leave after costs, duty and the price of the new place, which may be higher than you expect. Downsizing may not suit everyone.
We’d look at your income, any Age Pension, and downsizer contributions to super where you’re eligible, if you or your spouse have owned the home for 10 or more years. An accountant can confirm any tax.
Compare it with what’s changed: any loan, who relies on your income and what you’d need to keep paying. Cover from before you bought may reflect an older balance, and default cover in super may be lower than what you could get outside super.
We can read what you hold before you change anything, and compare and apply with you if it suits. The insurer decides.
There’s no cost for the initial conversation. Any advice after that is a paid service, with its scope and fee agreed with you in writing first.
In that first conversation we’ll explain how we can help and what we’ll need to get started, and you’re welcome to ask anything about how our fees work.
You can meet us at our Eagle Street office or by phone or video. The areas tab above lists the regions we service.
Our services are financial planning and advice, personal insurance, superannuation, SMSF, cashflow and financial wellbeing, tax and wealth strategies, property investment advice, and retirement and aged care. Each one has its own page with more detail, linked from the tabs above.
Lending goes to a mortgage broker, tax returns to an accountant and wills to a solicitor, and we can work alongside them.
We start with what you’d like to talk through, whether that’s a next home, a deposit, retirement or simply a second opinion.
There’s no cost for the initial conversation. Any advice after that is a paid service, with its scope and fee agreed with you in writing first. If you have them handy, a home loan statement, a super statement and a recent payslip are useful, and we’ll explain how we can help from there.
