Work that can move between builders, pay that can change with the job, your super and any cover are all linked. We’ll help you bring them together, from a first white card to a trade or a new role.

What we advise on
Once any accounts from past jobs are brought together, what could your super grow into?
Gathering the right accounts in one place, after checking any cover, can mean paying fees once and more of your super growing.
We can find your super accounts and weigh up funds for construction workers on fees, investment options and cover.
ATO online services in myGov lists the super accounts in your name, finds lost ones and flags any account that has insurance included. Moneysmart suggests you don’t just roll everything into the account with the highest balance, and notes that if you change funds you may not get the same cover. The Fair Entitlements Guarantee doesn’t cover unpaid super if an employer is liquidated, so checking contributions as they arrive is a useful habit.
Together, we’ll work through:
When work comes job by job, what could a steady budget help you save for?
Budgeting on your regular pay can let the busier weeks build savings for a car, a trip or a home deposit.
We can set up a budget for pay that can change from job to job, with a buffer for any gaps.
If the award covers you as a casual, you’re paid a 25% loading instead of paid leave, notice and redundancy benefits. At entry level, the award’s classification steps up after 3 months and again after 12 months in the industry, not just with one employer. We can plan the loading as the leave it replaces, with a buffer for the weeks between jobs.
Together, we’ll work through:
How could everyday bills be paid if illness or injury stopped your work on site?
Through income protection, part of your income can be paid after a waiting period, so regular bills can still be met.
We can compare income protection, life and TPD for construction workers, with cover set around physical work and hours that can vary.
Moneysmart says income protection usually replaces a share of your pre-tax income, based on your earnings in the 12 months before an illness or injury, and some policies only cover you if you work a minimum number of hours each week. Workers compensation is separate, through a state, territory or Commonwealth scheme. The insurer sets the terms and decides any claim.
Together, we’ll work through:
Which goals would you like your years on site to help you reach?
Giving each goal an amount and a date, then reviewing it as your work changes, can show the steps to get there.
Together, we’ll set out a financial plan, or Statement of Advice, around the way you’re employed, and revisit it as that changes.
Moving from casual to permanent work, starting an adult apprenticeship or stepping into traffic control or a leading hand role can change your pay, leave and super. Casual employees have access to a pathway to become permanent under the National Employment Standards. We can set review points with you for each of those changes.
Together, we’ll work through:
Years from now, what would you like your days to look like after site work?
Planning ahead with super and savings can let you choose the year you finish and the kind of days that follow.
We’ll map your later working years with you, from lighter site roles to finishing work, with super and savings planned for each.
Preservation age is 60 for anyone born from 1 July 1964, and super can generally only be accessed once you meet a condition of release, such as ceasing employment at 60 or over. Moving off the heaviest work into supervising, traffic control or plant can change your income in the years before then, so the plan is worth revisiting at each step.
Together, we’ll work through:
At tax time, how could more of what you earn go towards the things you want?
Using contributions and timing well, within the rules, can help more of each year’s pay build your savings and super.
Together, we’ll look at how tax touches your pay, leave and super, with an accountant preparing and lodging your return.
Ryker’s financial advisers plan tax and set tax structure and strategy, working alongside your accountant, who prepares and lodges your return. Working for several employers in one year can mean several income statements in myGov, and tax withheld by each one. We use an accountant’s answers to shape decisions on super, savings and cover.
Together, we’ll work through:
What would it take to buy a home on pay that can change from job to job?
Knowing the deposit, the costs and the repayments a quieter month could carry can turn buying into a clear set of goals.
We’ll work out with you the deposit, buffer and repayments a home or investment would need, with a broker arranging any loan.
How a lender treats any casual or labour hire income is the lender’s call, and a broker can compare what different lenders ask for. Borrowing to invest can magnify losses as well as gains, and the loan must still be repaid if values fall. From 1 July 2027, negative gearing on residential property is limited to new builds, though property held on 12 May 2026 is exempt.
Together, we’ll work through:

Every site relies on labourers, from the first delivery of materials to the last clean-up before handover. It’s physical work that keeps a project moving, and it can take you across many builders and many jobs. We’ll take the time to hear how your work runs and what you’d like your money to do for you. Then we can help you build a plan that fits the way you’re paid and the life you want away from site.
For many people, the reason for the work sits at home: a place of your own, time with family or friends, or the next step towards a trade. If someone shares your plans or relies on your pay, they can be part of the plan too. Whether you stay on the tools, earn a new ticket or move into another role, we can help you plan for the life you’d like, now and in the years ahead, and review it with you as things change.
Every financial decision impacts the next
Great advice starts with understanding the bigger picture. Every stage of life presents new opportunities and challenges, from buying property and changing careers to growing your family, planning for retirement and protecting what matters most. At Ryker, we help connect every piece of your financial world into one clear strategy.
Your
Wealth

We’re invested in your long-term success. What we do is personal, and we take it personally.
Your financial decisions connect, so we consider the parts of your financial life that are relevant to the advice you need:
This is how we help you make decisions today with your longer-term goals in view.
Everybody’s situation is different, so we listen first, understand what matters to you and explain your options clearly before we make a recommendation.
It depends on how each employer paid your super. When you start a new job, your employer generally pays into your existing super fund unless you choose another; a default fund applies only if you have no fund. Accounts opened in earlier jobs can still be sitting in your name.
ATO online services in myGov lists your super accounts, finds lost ones and flags any account that has insurance included. No single fund suits every construction worker, so the account to keep is worth choosing on fees, investment options and cover, not just on the largest balance.
We can go through the list with you and compare the accounts before anything is combined.
Your accountant and financial adviser bring different expertise to the same decisions. Your accountant can advise on tax reporting, structures and consequences; we help you plan how cashflow, debt, super, investments and protection work towards your goals. We can coordinate before important decisions.
What an accountant does
What a financial adviser does
Professional roles and authorisations matter. We provide financial advice within our authorisations and work with your accountant for specialist tax advice and lodgements.
Where they work together
If you’re a labour hire employee, the labour hire business is your employer. Fair Work says labour hire employers are responsible for providing their employees with their pay and entitlements, and that includes your super, not the builder you’re placed with.
From 1 July 2026, super is generally on time if your fund receives it within 7 business days after payday, or 20 business days for a new employee’s first payment. You can see your employers’ contributions in ATO online services through myGov and compare them with your payslips. If a payment is missing, you can raise it with your employer and then report it to the ATO.
We can set up a simple routine with you for checking super at each new placement.
It depends on the policy and the insurer’s assessment, not on being casual alone. Moneysmart notes that some policies only cover you if you work a minimum number of hours each week, and that income protection usually bases the benefit on your earnings in the 12 months before an illness or injury, so hours that vary can matter.
An application can be offered on standard terms, with a premium loading, with an exclusion for a named condition, deferred for a period, or declined. The insurer decides.
We can compare suitable policies with you on how they treat your hours and duties, and look at any cover you already hold through super.
Combining through ATO online services is quick, and it’s worth knowing how to use it. Advice looks at the decisions around the move: which account to keep, what cover each account holds, whether another fund would give you the same cover, and where your contributions go afterwards.
Moneysmart suggests you don’t just transfer everything into the account with the highest balance. Default cover inside super can usually be issued without medical checks, though it may carry pre-existing condition rules set out in the fund’s PDS, and increasing it is usually underwritten like any other application.
We can work through those questions with you before anything is rolled over.
If the award covers you, an adult apprentice is someone 21 or over when they sign the training contract. Your ordinary hourly rate won’t drop if you worked for the same employer immediately before: in general building and civil work, that means at least 6 months as a full-time weekly or daily hire employee, or 12 months as a part-time or regular casual employee.
Otherwise, you’re paid the lowest classification rate or the rate for your year of apprenticeship, whichever is greater. An enterprise agreement may set different terms, and Fair Work can confirm what applies to you.
We can budget the move with you before you sign up.
They’re separate questions. Where the award covers you, a casual is paid a loading instead of entitlements such as annual leave, notice and redundancy benefits, while the industry redundancy scheme applies to weekly and daily hire employees.
Long service leave works differently. Fair Work says workers in the construction industry can qualify for long service leave based on service in the industry, rather than with just one employer. Each state and territory runs its own scheme, and its rules set who is covered, including whether casual work counts, so the body where you work can confirm your position.
We can plan any balance you build up into your longer-term goals.
Yes, wherever you are in construction work, from a first white card to years on site.
There’s no cost for the initial conversation. Any advice after that is a paid service, with its scope and fee agreed with you in writing first.
It helps to bring recent payslips from each employer or labour hire business, the list of super accounts from myGov or your fund statements, and details of any cover you hold.
