Your income, super, cover and costs can look very different on wages, a share of fees, a rented room or mobile work. We’ll help you plan around the way you work and build towards what you want.

What we advise on
Illness or injury can take you away from treating: what could keep money coming in?
With income protection, part of your income can be paid, subject to the policy’s terms and exclusions and the insurer’s assessment.
We’ll compare cover with you around your duties, your hours and how you’re paid.
After a waiting period, income protection usually pays a share of your pre-tax income, based on your earnings in the 12 months before an illness or injury. Each policy has its own definition of disability. Insurers usually ask about your age and job when you apply, and the insurer decides on applications and claims.
Together, we’ll work through:

Could a budget built around your treatments make more room for what you want?
Starting from the income you can rely on can show what’s left for your own goals.
Together, we’ll build a budget on what you can rely on from wages, a share of fees or your own takings.
Fees can follow treatments, while costs such as room rent, membership and insurances can keep running when treatments stop. We start with essential costs at home and the income you can reasonably rely on. If you’re self-employed, there’s no paid holiday or sick leave behind that figure, so we plan a buffer with you.
Together, we’ll work through:
How might your super build across wages, a share of fees or your own clients?
Knowing who pays what under each way of working can help you plan what to add yourself.
We’ll map who pays super on wages, a share of fees or your own clients, with an accountant or the ATO confirming.
On a contract, a business may still have to pay super if you’re paid mainly for your labour. The ATO looks at whether more than half the contract’s dollar value is for your labour, whether payment depends on a specified result and whether the work can be delegated. Having an ABN doesn’t settle it, so an accountant or the ATO can confirm where you stand.
Together, we’ll work through:
What could you plan ahead for when tax falls due on your fees?
An amount set aside from fees as you earn them, estimated by an accountant, can make tax time easier to plan for.
We’ll map out with you how tax sits in your plan, with an accountant on what you can claim.
Ryker’s financial advisers plan tax and set tax structure and strategy, working alongside your accountant, who prepares and lodges your return. If you’re self-employed, part of each week’s fees may end up owed as tax, and an accountant can estimate the amount to set aside. Whether GST applies to your work is also a question for an accountant.
Together, we’ll work through:
Which step in your massage work would you like to plan next?
Seeing the cost and the likely income side by side can make the next step easier to weigh up.
We’ll cost your next step with you in a financial plan, or Statement of Advice.
Only so many treatments fit in a week, so growing your income can mean a higher fee, a better share, your own rooms, a team or teaching. If you’re employed, more than one award can cover massage work, and where the national award system applies, Fair Work is the place to check which one covers you. We plan the money side with you.
Together, we’ll work through:
In the years ahead, how would you like your working week to look?
Planning early can open up more choice about how many treatments you keep and what pays for the rest.
We’ll start your retirement plan from super and savings, then add the treating or teaching you’d like to keep.
Preservation age is 60 for anyone born from 1 July 1964, and super can generally only be accessed once you meet a condition of release, such as ceasing employment at 60 or over. Massage work can change shape over the years, so we look at what you’d like to keep doing and what your super and savings could support.
Together, we’ll work through:
Where might a home or investment property fit with income from treatments?
A purchase tested against fewer treatments for a while can show what repayments would leave you.
We can test a purchase with you against a quieter run of treatments, and a broker can arrange any loan.
A lender decides how it reads fee or ABN income, and a broker arranges any loan. Borrowing to invest can magnify losses as well as gains, and the loan must still be repaid if values fall. From 1 July 2027, negative gearing on residential property is limited to new builds, though property held on 12 May 2026 is exempt. For gains accruing after 1 July 2027, indexation and a 30% minimum tax generally replace the 50% CGT discount.
Together, we’ll work through:
Cover Compared for Massage Work

Read morePeople come to you after a hard week and trust you with their care. You give each of them your full attention, treatment after treatment, and your own money deserves some of that attention too. We’d love to hear how you work, how you’re paid and what you want from life outside work. Then we can shape a plan around all of it, with the years ahead in view as well as this one.
What you earn can be for more than this week’s bills. It might go towards a home, time with the people you love, further study or the chance to treat a little less one day. We can plan for your own savings and super to build beside the work, as a base for later. Each year we can go back over the plan with you, so it keeps pace with what you want.
Every financial decision impacts the next
Great advice starts with understanding the bigger picture. Every stage of life presents new opportunities and challenges, from buying property and changing careers to growing your family, planning for retirement and protecting what matters most. At Ryker, we help connect every piece of your financial world into one clear strategy.
Your
Wealth

We’re invested in your long-term success. What we do is personal, and we take it personally.
Your financial decisions connect, so we consider the parts of your financial life that are relevant to the advice you need:
This is how we help you make decisions today with your longer-term goals in view.
Everybody’s situation is different, so we listen first, understand what matters to you and explain your options clearly before we make a recommendation.
A clinic may have to. A business can have to pay super on a contract that’s mainly for your labour, which the ATO describes as more than half the contract’s dollar value. The payment also can’t depend on a specified result, and the work can’t be delegated to someone else.
Having an ABN doesn’t settle it. If the contract is with your own company, trust or partnership, the business doesn’t have to pay super for the person doing the work.
An accountant or the ATO can confirm where you stand, and we can then plan your own contributions with you.
Your accountant and financial adviser bring different expertise to the same decisions. Your accountant can advise on tax reporting, structures and consequences; we help you plan how cashflow, debt, super, investments and protection work towards your goals. We can coordinate before important decisions.
What an accountant does
What a financial adviser does
Professional roles and authorisations matter. We provide financial advice within our authorisations and work with your accountant for specialist tax advice and lodgements.
Where they work together
More than one award can cover massage work, including awards for health care and for hair and beauty. Where the national award system applies, Fair Work is the place to check which one applies to you.
Our part is the planning. We build your budget, super and cover around the pay you receive, and you can raise any question about the award itself with Fair Work.
A room can give you your own clients and your own hours, and it comes with costs that run whether or not the book is full:
We can compare the room with your current arrangement in your own numbers, including a buffer for quieter weeks, so you can see what each one could leave you.
Going mobile changes what a working day costs. Time spent driving between clients isn’t time spent treating, so we’d look at how many treatments fit in your week and what they’d bring in after running costs:
From there, we can build a budget with you that reflects the way you’d work.
A few places, and not all of them may apply to you:
Costs such as room rent, membership and insurances may keep running, so a budget is a useful place to begin. We can work through what you’d want in place and compare cover with you.
Professional indemnity and public liability are for a general insurance broker to talk you through, as we don’t advise on those policies.
What we look at is your household if you couldn’t treat: income protection, life and TPD, with your super and savings beside them. Together, we can compare options from a wide range of insurers around your duties and earnings. Any application is the insurer’s to decide.
Professional associations say each health fund sets its own requirements for provider status, and that belonging to an association doesn’t by itself give you that status. Requirements such as insurance, education and first aid vary by fund, so the fund, and any association you belong to, can tell you what applies.
Our part is the money side. If you hold provider status or you’re working towards it, we can plan for those costs in your yearly budget and for the timing around a move of rooms.
We’d cost it with you first, so you can see what fewer treatments could mean for your household:
It’s also worth reading any cover you hold before you change your work, as your duties and income may be described differently. We can go through that with you.
Yes. We can look with you at how many treatments a week you’d like to give later, whether teaching or mentoring could be a stage, and what room rent or other work costs would fall away. If you’re self-employed and no business pays super for you, your own contributions are yours to plan.
We’d build the plan on super and savings first, then add the work you’d like to keep. You can read more about our retirement advice.
We’re a national service, so you can meet with us by phone or video from anywhere in Australia. We also have offices in three cities:
Yes. A first massage job, a room you’re weighing up or a clinic you’ve run for years are all fine places to begin from.
There’s no cost for the initial conversation. Any advice after that is a paid service, with its scope and fee agreed with you in writing first.
