Variable pay that can move with the hiring market, a restructure, a move in-house or an agency of your own all connect. We can help you cost each one, from your budget and super to your cover.

What we advise on
Good months of placements: what could they set up for the life you’d like?
Deciding where good months go before they land can support your bills, savings and plans of your own.
We can build a budget with you on the pay you can rely on, before adding what you bill.
Pay in recruitment can start with a base, then add commission or a bonus under a plan, and the money can arrive well after the work. Repayments and household bills still come every month, so we start with your base or regular pay and plan what comes on top. If a debt gets hard to manage, Moneysmart notes that all lenders have hardship teams.
Together, we’ll work through:
Which direction would you like your recruitment career to take from here?
Looking a step ahead can show what a move could pay, cost and change at home.
We’ll map your next step in recruitment with you and set it out in a financial plan, or Statement of Advice.
A recruitment career can move from consultant to team leader, from a perm desk to a contract desk, from an agency to in-house or into an agency of your own. Each can change your base, what you can bill and the leave and super that come with it. A lawyer can read any contract, and we plan the money side with you.
Together, we’ll work through:
How could strong quarters help build your super for later on?
Mapping what goes in on base and variable pay can show what’s yours to add.
Together, we’ll map what goes into your super now, then plan what you’d like to add.
From 1 July 2026, all commissions paid to an employee count as qualifying earnings for super, the ATO says. Your payslips and fund statement can show what’s being paid, and the ATO’s maximum contribution base can limit what an employer has to pay. If you run your own agency, we can plan your super contributions with you.
Together, we’ll work through:
Which money decisions in a big billing year are worth making with tax in mind?
Talking to an accountant before the financial year ends can leave fewer surprises when your return is prepared.
We’ll work through the tax side of your pay with you, alongside an accountant.
Ryker’s financial advisers plan tax and set tax structure and strategy, working alongside your accountant, who prepares and lodges your return. The tax withheld from a big pay run may not match what you end up owing, so an accountant can check your position. Whether income from your own agency is personal services income is also a question for an accountant.
Together, we’ll work through:
Illness or injury can mean time away from clients and candidates: what could keep money coming in at home?
After a waiting period, income protection can pay part of what you earn, subject to the policy’s terms and the insurer’s assessment.
We’ll compare cover with you around pay that swings, from a wide range of insurers.
Income protection is generally for illness or injury rather than losing a job, so we can help you understand what it would and wouldn’t do for you. Moneysmart says it usually bases the benefit on your earnings in the 12 months before an illness or injury, so a quiet hiring year can matter, and it’s worth asking each insurer how variable pay is worked out. The insurer decides on each application and claim.
Together, we’ll work through:

Buying a home or an investment property: how does it sit with pay that moves with the hiring market?
Repayments tested against your regular pay can show how a purchase sits with the rest of your plans.
We’ll test a purchase with you against your regular pay and a slow hiring market, and a broker can arrange any loan.
A lender decides how it reads your commission and other variable pay, and a broker can compare lenders and arrange a loan. Borrowing to invest can magnify losses as well as gains, and the loan must still be repaid if values fall. From 1 July 2027, negative gearing on residential property is limited to new builds, though property held on 12 May 2026 is exempt.
Together, we’ll work through:
When you picture finishing up in recruitment, what would you like your days to look like?
Starting with the life you’d like can show what your super and savings would need to do.
Together, we’ll build retirement from your super and savings first, with any agency value as an addition.
Super and savings can form the base of your retirement income, because what an agency could sell for isn’t certain. Preservation age is 60 for anyone born from 1 July 1964, and super can generally only be accessed once you meet a condition of release, such as ceasing employment at 60 or over.
Together, we’ll work through:

Read moreYour work can change someone’s working life. One call from you can mean a new job, a fresh start or a move closer to home, and a client can find the person who helps their team grow. We’d like to hear about your working life too: what you enjoy, who matters most to you and what you’re hoping for. From there, we’ll help you build a plan around your own goals and the life you’d like to lead, at work and at home.
You spend a lot of your working life thinking about other people’s next steps, and your own are worth that same care. Yours might be a place to call home, more time with the people you love, an agency of your own or more choice about what you do next. Anyone relying on you can have a place in the plan as well. Whatever you’d like next, we can work through it with you, and our ongoing advice clients go over their plan with us each year.
Every financial decision impacts the next
Great advice starts with understanding the bigger picture. Every stage of life presents new opportunities and challenges, from buying property and changing careers to growing your family, planning for retirement and protecting what matters most. At Ryker, we help connect every piece of your financial world into one clear strategy.
Your
Wealth

We’re invested in your long-term success. What we do is personal, and we take it personally.
Your financial decisions connect, so we consider the parts of your financial life that are relevant to the advice you need:
This is how we help you make decisions today with your longer-term goals in view.
Everybody’s situation is different, so we listen first, understand what matters to you and explain your options clearly before we make a recommendation.
Yes. Whether you’re on a desk, in-house or leading a team, our financial advice and strategies can help you prepare. That could mean working out how long your money would last without your regular pay, building a buffer from strong quarters and looking at debts and super contributions across a gap. Your employer, and any written contract or plan, can tell you what happens to your commission if a role ends.
Income protection is generally for illness or injury rather than losing a job, so we can help you understand what it would and wouldn’t do for you, and what may change with any cover if you leave. If your job does end, our redundancy advice can help with what comes next.
Your accountant and financial adviser bring different expertise to the same decisions. Your accountant can advise on tax reporting, structures and consequences; we help you plan how cashflow, debt, super, investments and protection work towards your goals. We can coordinate before important decisions.
What an accountant does
What a financial adviser does
Professional roles and authorisations matter. We provide financial advice within our authorisations and work with your accountant for specialist tax advice and lodgements.
Where they work together
Under the National Employment Standards, redundancy pay is worked out at your base pay rate for your ordinary hours, and incentive-based payments and bonuses are left out. An award, agreement or contract may differ, and most small business employers don’t have to pay redundancy pay under those standards.
Fair Work’s Notice and Redundancy Calculator works through award and National Employment Standards amounts, and a lawyer can read your contract. Until you know, it can help to budget on the lowest amount you could receive, and we can work through that budget with you.
It can help to run regular bills on your base pay, if you have one, as that part doesn’t depend on what you bill. Each commission payment can then have its own purpose:
There’s no single split that suits everyone, and the choice is yours. We can work through the figures with you.
Start with your agency pay averaged across recent years rather than a peak, then set the in-house salary beside it. From there, look at what else would change:
A lawyer can read the contract itself, including limits on your next move. We can cost both options with you in your household’s terms.
Start with how long your savings would need to last before first fees arrive. Moneysmart notes self-employed people won’t have paid holidays or sick leave, and suggests checking whether the move affects the insurance cover through your super.
An accountant can advise on structure and personal services income. Supplying workers can need a labour hire licence in some places, so it’s worth checking with the regulator. We can cost the move with you and look at cover before you leave your job, with the insurer deciding any application.
It can depend on the wording of any commission plan and your contract, so those are the first things to read. Fair Work can help with entitlements from the National Employment Standards, an award or an enterprise agreement, and says to seek legal advice on other final pay issues, so a lawyer can read any plan.
For your budget, it can help to treat a payment after you leave as uncertain until it arrives. We can plan your next few months with you on that basis.
If you’re an employee, yes. From 1 July 2026, all commissions paid to an employee count as qualifying earnings for super, the ATO says.
Your payslips and fund statements can show what’s being paid. The maximum contribution base can limit what an employer has to pay, and an accountant or the ATO can explain how it applies. From there, we can plan your own contributions with you.
A program through work can be a useful place to start, and your employer can tell you what it includes. What we add is personal advice on your own situation: your budget around pay that swings, your super, your cover and your next career step. It sits beside what your employer provides, and we set it out in a financial plan, or Statement of Advice.
Yes. We can look with you at when you’d like to stop billing, and whether a final stretch in-house or running an agency is part of the picture. Super built on pay that swings can be uneven from year to year, so your own contributions in stronger years may be worth planning.
We’d start the plan from super and savings, with an agency as one asset among others, as a sale isn’t certain. You can read more about our retirement advice.

Useful things to bring are your commission plan, if you have one, and your latest payslips. We can go through fund statements, policies and loans from there.
