Base pay, allowances, overtime, any on-call work, any agreement and your next role all connect. We’ll help you build a plan on the pay you can rely on, from apprentice to firm owner.

What we advise on
Time away from lift work through illness or injury: what could keep money coming in?
Part of your income can come from income protection after a waiting period, subject to its terms, exclusions and the insurer’s assessment.
Together, we’ll look at life, TPD and income protection from the insurers willing to consider your work.
Income protection can pay a share of your pre-tax income if you can’t work, usually based on your earnings in the 12 months before, and most policies offer a waiting period between 14 days and two years. An insurer usually looks at your job and duties when you apply, and this can affect whether cover is offered, the benefit periods available and the amount. Exclusions can apply, including to occupations or activities, and the insurer decides on any application.

What could extra pay from lift work set up for you and your goals?
Planning around your reliable pay can let overtime or call-backs go towards goals of your own.
We can build a budget with you on the lift work pay you can rely on, with extras planned separately.
Lift work pay can depend on your employer’s agreement or award, and one on-site award has its own lift clause and allowance. So we start with the pay you can count on each week, then plan overtime, call-backs and other extras above it. A pay rise goes into the budget when it lands, rather than before.
Together, we’ll work through:
How much can your payslip tell you about the super building up from lift work?
Payslips and fund statements, read together, can show what’s gone in and where it sits.
We can trace your super with you from your payslips, your funds and any ABN work.
On a contract, a business may still have to pay super if you’re paid mainly for your labour. The ATO asks whether more than half the contract’s value is for your labour, whether payment depends on a set result and whether the work can be delegated, and having an ABN doesn’t settle it. The hirer doesn’t have to pay under a contract with your own company, trust or partnership. An accountant or the ATO can confirm where you stand.
Together, we’ll work through:
Which parts of varying lift work pay are worth planning with tax in mind?
Working ahead with an accountant can leave fewer surprises when overtime or ABN income changes your tax.
Together, we’ll plan the tax side of your lift work, alongside an accountant.
Ryker’s financial advisers plan tax and set tax structure and strategy, working alongside your accountant, who prepares and lodges your return. Overtime, allowances and ABN income can all change what you owe, and an accountant can estimate the amount. What you can claim for tools, licences and travel is also a question for an accountant.
Together, we’ll work through:
What’s next for you in lift work, and what would you like to plan?
Mapping each step early can show what it pays, what it costs and what changes for you.
Together, we’ll plan your next move in lift work and set it out in a financial plan, or Statement of Advice.
Lift work can change over a career: apprentice to qualified, install to service or back again, or a move into supervising, estimating or contract management. Each can change your duties, your hours and the way your pay is made up. We plan the money side with you, so you can see what a move would mean before you decide.
Together, we’ll work through:
When you finish with lift work, how would you like to spend your time?
An early plan can give you more say in when you finish and how those years look.
We’ll look at retirement with you from super and savings first, then any income from a later stage of work.
Super and savings can form the base of your retirement income. Preservation age is 60 for anyone born from 1 July 1964, and super can generally only be accessed once you meet a condition of release, such as ceasing employment at 60 or over. From there, we can plan how long you’d like to keep doing physical work and what could come next.
Together, we’ll work through:
Would a home or investment property still fit your budget on pay without overtime?
Testing repayments against your reliable pay can show what a purchase might ask of your budget.
We’ll test a purchase with you against pay without overtime, and a broker arranges any loan.
A lender decides how it reads allowances, overtime and ABN income, and a broker arranges any loan. Borrowing to invest can magnify losses as well as gains, and the loan must still be repaid if values fall. From 1 July 2027, negative gearing on residential property is limited to new builds, though property held on 12 May 2026 is exempt. For gains accruing after 1 July 2027, indexation and a 30% minimum tax generally replace the 50% CGT discount.
Together, we’ll work through:

Read moreEvery day, people reach their homes, offices and hospital appointments on lifts and escalators that few people know how to install or look after. That takes skill, patience and care, and it’s a trade to be proud of. We’d like to start by getting to know you: how your work runs, what matters to you and what you’d like your work to make possible. From there, we’ll help you build a plan around the pay you can rely on and the life you’d like.
Steady planning can help your extra pay go further. A share of overtime or a pay rise could go towards a home, a family holiday, more time off, a firm of your own or more choice about when you finish up. If someone relies on your income, the plan can allow for them too. Through ongoing advice, we can review the plan with you each year, so it keeps pace with the goals you’ve set.
Every financial decision impacts the next
Great advice starts with understanding the bigger picture. Every stage of life presents new opportunities and challenges, from buying property and changing careers to growing your family, planning for retirement and protecting what matters most. At Ryker, we help connect every piece of your financial world into one clear strategy.
Your
Wealth

We’re invested in your long-term success. What we do is personal, and we take it personally.
Your financial decisions connect, so we consider the parts of your financial life that are relevant to the advice you need:
This is how we help you make decisions today with your longer-term goals in view.
Everybody’s situation is different, so we listen first, understand what matters to you and explain your options clearly before we make a recommendation.
Start from the pay you can count on in an ordinary week: your base rate and any allowance paid regardless of overtime. A few months of payslips can show which parts hold steady.
Overtime, call-backs and any on-call pay can then sit above that line, with a share going to savings, super or a goal of your own. Policies and lenders can treat those layers differently, so it’s worth asking how they’d count yours. We can set this out with you from your own payslips.
Your accountant and financial adviser bring different expertise to the same decisions. Your accountant can advise on tax reporting, structures and consequences; we help you plan how cashflow, debt, super, investments and protection work towards your goals. We can coordinate before important decisions.
What an accountant does
What a financial adviser does
Professional roles and authorisations matter. We provide financial advice within our authorisations and work with your accountant for specialist tax advice and lodgements.
Where they work together
It depends on who employs you and the work you do. Lift work pay can depend on your employer’s agreement or award, and one on-site award has its own lift clause and allowance. That clause covers electrical and metal tradespeople and their assistants on the installation, major modernisation, servicing, repair or maintenance of lifts and escalators.
Your employer can tell you what applies to you, and Fair Work is the place to check, including where the national award system applies. Whichever it is, we can plan with you from your payslips.
Start with the agreement itself, because only your document can show what it provides. For any cover your agreement provides, it helps to look at:
Income protection is generally for illness or injury rather than losing a job. We can read it with you beside personal cover from the insurers willing to consider your work, and the insurer decides on any application.
Start with super. Having an ABN doesn’t settle it: a business may still have to pay your super if more than half the contract’s value is for your labour, payment doesn’t depend on a set result and the work can’t be delegated. The hirer doesn’t have to pay under a contract with your own company, trust or partnership. An accountant or the ATO can confirm where you stand.
Then plan for time off, as self-employed people don’t have paid sick leave, and keep invoices and income records from the start. Workers compensation is separate, and each scheme sets who qualifies. We can go through the offer with you beside your wage.
Start with the pay that could change, such as overtime or on-call pay, and compare the offer with your last year of payslips. Points to plan:
We can go through the numbers with you before you say yes.
Start with your pay steps. Under one award, for example, apprentices get a share of the lift allowance that rises with each year of the apprenticeship. Deciding early what each step goes towards can help it build your savings.
It’s also worth looking at:
We can set this out with you from your current payslips.
Yes. We can look with you at how long you’d like to keep doing physical work, a supervising or training stage along the way, and what changes in your budget if overtime or on-call pay winds down.
We’d build the plan on super and savings, with any sale of a small lift firm as an addition. You can read more about our retirement advice.
We’re a national service, so you can meet with us by phone or video from anywhere in Australia. We also have offices in three cities:
Yes. You can start with us wherever you are now, from the first year of an apprenticeship to running a small lift firm.
There’s no cost for the initial conversation. Any advice after that is a paid service, with its scope and fee agreed with you in writing first.
It helps to have a few things with you: recent payslips, a statement from your super fund and any agreement or policy papers you have. We can meet in person or online.
