The 1 July Changes Your Clients Will Ask You About

Your clients are about to ask you questions you are not licensed to answer. That is an opportunity.

A new financial year always brings questions, and 2026-27 brings more than most. Several changes started on 1 July, and brokers are often the first trusted person a client asks. You cannot give the advice, but you can be the one who points them to someone who can. Here is what changed, in plain terms.

Clients can put more into super

From 1 July 2026 the concessional contributions cap rose to $32,500 and the non-concessional cap to $130,000, with bring-forward of up to $390,000 in a single year for those eligible (ATO). A client who has just sold a property or come into money will want to know how much they can move into super. That is an advice conversation, and a valuable one.

Most taxpayers get a small tax cut

The 16%t tax rate dropped to 15% on income between $18,201 and $45,000 from 1 July (ATO). It is modest on its own, but it often opens a wider conversation about a client’s whole position, which is where good advice starts.

A new tax on very large balances has begun

Division 296, an extra tax on total super balances above $3 million, is now law and started on 1 July 2026. It affects a small number of clients, but those clients are exactly the ones a broker does not want to give a wrong answer to. The safe move is a referral to an adviser who handles it properly.

Why this matters for your business

Every one of these is a moment where your client needs an adviser, not a broker. If you have a trusted partner to hand them to, you look switched on, the client stays yours, and the advice is handled by people who do it for a living. If you do not, the client goes looking, and you lose the thread.

For Brokers

When your clients start asking about the 1 July changes, you do not have to have the answers. You just need somewhere good to send them. That is what a Ryker partnership gives you.
